Jung Jae-won, South Korea's long-distance speed skating ace, claimed his second World Cup medal of the season in the mass start event.
Jung crossed the finish line in 7 minutes 25.568 seconds in the men's mass start at the 2025-2026 International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup third leg held in Heerenveen, Netherlands, on Wednesday. Narrowly trailing first-place finisher Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands, who recorded 7 minutes 24.963 seconds, Jung earned his second silver medal of the season following the second leg.
In the women's mass start, Park Ji-woo claimed the bronze medal with a time of 8 minutes 8.285 seconds, securing her first career World Cup medal.
Marijke Groenewoud of the Netherlands took first place with 8 minutes 7.660 seconds, while Mia Manganello of the United States finished second in 8 minutes 7.924 seconds.
Lim Ri-won, who also competed in the event, finished 16th with a time of 8 minutes 9.836 seconds.
The Korean team failed to secure medals in events other than mass start. In the women's 500 meters, Kim Min-sun and Lee Na-hyun finished seventh and 15th with times of 37.830 seconds and 38.024 seconds, respectively.
In the men's 500 meters, veteran Kim Jun-ho recorded 34.438 seconds, finishing seventh.
Kim Jun-ho had reached the podium in all four races during the first and second World Cup legs this season but failed to collect a medal at this competition.
Koo Kyung-min, who also competed in the event, finished 18th with a time of 34.836 seconds.
