Police investigating allegations arising from the Korea Football Association's process of appointing the national team head coach have launched a search and seizure operation at the association's offices and other locations.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Financial Crime Investigation Unit said it dispatched investigators to multiple locations, including the Korea Football Association in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, and the Football Center in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, starting at 9 a.m. on the 6th to secure related materials. The warrant reportedly cited charges including obstruction of business. This marks the first police search and seizure of the Korea Football Association in this case.
Police are examining whether regulations and procedures were properly followed during the process of appointing former national team head coach Hong Myung-bo in 2024. Based on the materials secured, they plan to determine whether there was any improper intervention in the candidate recommendation, evaluation, and final decision processes.
Earlier, on the 4th of this month, police summoned former coach Hong as a suspect and investigated the facts regarding charges including obstruction of business and breach of trust.
