Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Kori Nuclear Power Site is launching a large-scale support program contest aimed at boosting the local economy near the plant and improving residents' welfare.
The Kori Nuclear Power Site said on the 6th that it will hold the contest for its "2027 Business Operator Support Program," worth a total of 8 billion won, for one month from the 7th of this month through the 7th of next month.
Under the Act on Assistance to Areas Surrounding Power Plants, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, as the power generation operator, invests its own funds into the program to promote economic revitalization, environmental improvement, welfare enhancement, and cultural promotion in areas near the plant.
In this year's contest, the site plans to identify additional projects that residents can directly experience, while actively pursuing projects tied to the state agenda, such as creating a loan fund for small business owners. It also plans to enhance the effectiveness of the projects by involving regional development experts to identify projects tailored to the local area.

The Kori Nuclear Power Site will hold a residents' briefing at 2 p.m. on the 7th, the opening day of the contest, at the multi-performance hall of the Kori Sports and Culture Center in Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan. The session will provide detailed guidance on the program overview, as well as tips for preparing project proposals and online submission methods.
"We aim to identify and select projects that provide practical help to local residents and can develop the region," said Ban Byung-hoon, head of the Kori Nuclear Power Site. "The submitted projects will be strictly selected through a fair and transparent process."
