The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City said on the 6th that it is activating a "Heatwave and Drought Emergency Response Control Center." The control center consists of six teams: a general situation team, a vulnerable groups response team, a workplace safety response team, an emergency response team, an agriculture-livestock-fisheries response team, and a water supply response team.
The Integrated Special City will check on the safety of vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities, and review measures to protect outdoor workers. It will also operate a heat-related illness monitoring system and an emergency medical response system, while checking reservoir levels and crop conditions.
In particular, the city plans to secure agricultural water by utilizing available water resources. Household water will be managed based on reservoir levels of 53.8% at Dongbok Dam and 42.0% at Juam Dam. If necessary, the city will also pursue measures to secure alternative water sources and conserve water.
