Students and faculty from Daegu Health College provided oral health volunteer services to about 600 local residents and students in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Daegu Health College said on the 6th that it carried out the overseas major-based volunteer program in Jakarta from the 28th of last month to the 2nd of this month. The activity has continued for four years. It was organized as part of the Glocal University 30 project and the Leading University for International Cooperation support program.
About 30 people took part in the volunteer work, including students and faculty from Daegu Health College's Department of Dental Technology and Department of Dental Hygiene, the Handablit Glocal Health Alliance University (Gwangju Health University and Daejeon Health University), and Jakarta Health Industry Technology University II.
Participants carried out activities based on their majors at facilities including the Pancoran Administrative Welfare Center. The Department of Dental Technology handled denture cleaning and children's play programs, while the Department of Dental Hygiene took charge of fluoride application and oral health education.
Ha Sung-bae, a third-year student in the Department of Dental Technology who participated in the volunteer work, said, "Through the process of laughing and communicating with local people, I deeply felt that for healthcare professionals, not only skills but also a heart to understand and empathize with people is important."
