The Seoul Station City Airport Terminal operated by the Airport Railroad has begun full operation with a more comfortable appearance after completing renovations. The move aims to ease the inconvenience of waiting for departure procedures amid a sharp rise in airport passengers.
According to the Airport Railroad on the 4th, work to improve the interior environment and reorganize traffic flow at the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal, which had been pursued since October last year, has been completed. The Seoul Station City Airport Terminal is a key facility where Incheon Airport passengers can complete boarding procedures, baggage check-in, and immigration screening in advance. Last year, direct train ridership reached 2.66 million annually, or 7,300 per day on average, up more than 35% from before COVID-19. Daily terminal usage also exceeded 2,000 people, driving continued demand for facility expansion.
Through this renewal, the Airport Railroad significantly improved waiting spaces and check-in procedures. To eliminate the inconvenience of lining up in front of counters, it newly introduced a queue waiting system. Passengers can receive a number ticket at a kiosk and wait in a seat before proceeding with check-in when called on a monitor, allowing them to attend to other matters such as currency exchange or meals during the wait.
Smart baggage scales were also installed for baggage check-in convenience. Passengers can check for excess baggage in advance before check-in, reducing delays caused by rearranging luggage on-site. In addition, a step-by-step number guidance system was applied to major movement routes leading from the customer service center to the immigration screening area and the direct train gate.
Congestion is also expected to be greatly eased as the existing conference room space was demolished and converted back into a rest area for passengers. Part of the open area was filled in to expand the waiting space, and the positions of fences and gates were adjusted to improve separation efficiency from the check-in area.
"Through this renewal, we have created an environment where passengers can begin their travel more comfortably and conveniently," Airport Railroad CEO Park Dae-soo said. "We will continue to steadily improve facilities and services by reflecting customer opinions."
