Yongin announced on the 24th that it has designated areas around 42 elementary schools within the city as "child protection zones."
Child protection zones are designated by local governments to protect children in accordance with relevant laws. The designation applies to areas within a 500-meter radius from the boundary line of the selected facility sites. Separate from children's protection zones (school zones), they are operated for the purpose of crime prevention and strengthening safety management.
The city had earlier enacted a related ordinance starting in March this year, working to build a community-centered child safety network.
Following this designation and operation of child protection zones, the city will establish a cooperative system with related agencies, including the Yongin Dongbu and Seobu Police Stations and the Yongin Office of Education, to intensively carry out enhanced patrols and crime prevention activities.
"With this designation of child protection zones, we have laid the foundation for creating a safe environment where children can live with peace of mind," a city official said. "We will closely cooperate with related agencies to prevent crimes targeting children and build a city where children are safe."
