Anyang recorded a sharp year-on-year increase in birth registrations in the first half of this year. The city said on the 21st that birth registrations totaled 2,388 as of the end of June 2026.
The figure represents an increase of 517 from 1,871 during the same period last year. The year-on-year growth rate stands at 27.6%.
Monthly average birth registrations also rose. The monthly average for the first half of this year was 398, up 80 from last year's monthly average of 318. The growth rate was 25.2%.
The city expects that if the current trend continues, birth registrations could reach approximately 4,700 by the end of this year. This would far exceed the total of 3,819 birth registrations for all of 2025.
The upward trend in births was also reflected in the total fertility rate. According to preliminary data from the National Data Agency, Anyang's total fertility rate rose 9.4% from 0.85 in 2024 to 0.93 in 2025.
During the same period, the national total fertility rate increased 6.6% from 0.75 to 0.80. Gyeonggi Province rose 6.3% from 0.79 to 0.84. Anyang's growth rate thus exceeded both the national and Gyeonggi provincial averages.
The city attributes the increase in births to a combination of housing support for youth and newlyweds, support for pregnancy, childbirth and childcare, and family-friendly policies promoting work-life balance.
Anyang has continuously pursued related policies to improve settlement conditions for young people and reduce the burden of childbirth and childcare. The city is also strengthening support in childcare, care services, housing and jobs, with the goal of creating a city that is good for raising children.
"The increase in birth registrations in the first half of 2026 is a meaningful indicator that shows the positive momentum of the youth, childbirth and childcare policies Anyang has been pursuing," Anyang Mayor Choi Dae-ho said.
"Going forward, we will continue to expand practical support to ensure that young people and newlyweds settle stably in Anyang and to build a city that is good for having and raising children," the mayor added.
