Hyundai Motor's labor and management are launching a childbirth and childcare goods support program worth a total of 200 million won to ease the initial parenting burden on new parents, in step with the rising birth rate in the Ulsan region. This represents a twofold expansion from last year.
Hyundai Motor's labor and management said they will present "H-Hope Dream Childbirth and Childcare Goods" kits to families registering newborn births at 55 administrative welfare centers across the entire Ulsan region starting on the 20th.
The goods provided this time cover a total of 2,000 households. The kits, worth approximately 100,000 won each, consist of items essential for daily life, including functional swaddles, newborn hats, temperature and humidity gauges, nail scissors, pacifiers, nursing mood lights, and vehicle infant-on-board notice signs. In addition, labor and management plan to hold a raffle by year-end to select 20 households from among the 2,000 that received kits, presenting them with additional infant and toddler car seats, contributing to building a stable foundation for the growth of future generations.
This expansion of support by Hyundai Motor's labor and management aims to further energize Ulsan's birth rate, which has recently shown signs of a rebound. According to the National Data Agency, Ulsan's total fertility rate in the first quarter of this year was 1.08, an increase of 0.13 from the same period a year earlier. This marks the first time in five years that Ulsan's total fertility rate has recovered to above 1.0, since the second quarter of 2021 (1.01).
"We extend warm encouragement to families welcoming new life, and hope to be of small help in their first steps toward becoming parents," a Hyundai Motor official said. "We will fulfill our corporate social responsibility to contribute to solving the national challenge of low birth rates and to help Ulsan's future generations grow up healthy."
Meanwhile, this event was organized as part of "H-Hope Dream," a signature social contribution activity of Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant. Launched in 2017 as a program to fulfill the wishes of local children, the activity significantly expanded its support scope from May last year to cover all age groups of future generations, including infancy (ages 0-5), childhood (ages 6-12), and adolescence (ages 13-19).
Now in its 10th year, the cumulative amount of future-generation support from Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant reaches approximately 1.9 billion won. Labor and management plan to continue diverse H-Hope Dream activities in the second half of this year, including a year-end Christmas event for elementary school students and support for future technology exploration education for middle and high school students.
