Heavy rain warnings issued across the country were lifted on the morning of the 10th as the torrential downpours that hit central regions for two days starting the night of the 8th subsided. The heavy rain left one person missing and caused more than 400 cases of facility damage, according to tallies. The government is continuing its search for the missing person while carrying out emergency recovery of flooding and other facility damage.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 10th, as of 5 a.m., rain of about 10 to 20 millimeters per hour was falling mainly in border regions, but was expected to stop in most areas during the morning.
Due to the heavy rain that poured down mainly across central regions, Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province recorded the highest cumulative rainfall at 267.1 millimeters, while more than 200 millimeters fell in Sejong and most parts of North and South Chungcheong provinces.
Casualties and facility damage also occurred. At around 10:01 a.m. the previous day, a man in his 80s was swept away by rapids and went missing at the Namwoncheon stream in Seongnae-ri, Punggi-eup, Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Authorities are conducting a search operation and investigating the cause. Facility damage was provisionally tallied at a total of 453 cases, including 359 cases at public facilities and 94 cases at private facilities. Public facility damage was most common in fallen trees and road flooding, with 70 cases each, followed by 24 cases of soil runoff, 16 sinkholes, and 13 damaged manholes. Among private facility damage, 24 cases of home flooding were confirmed.
Crop damage totaled 436.2 hectares, with South Chungcheong Province accounting for most at 410.1 hectares. Landslides also occurred in Okcheon, Yeongwol, Cheonan, and Gongju, but no casualties resulted.
Residents also continued to evacuate. A total of 758 people from 508 households in 25 cities and counties across seven metropolitan cities and provinces were temporarily evacuated. Of these, 688 people from 467 households are staying in temporary housing facilities such as village halls and senior centers. Seventy people from 41 households took shelter at relatives' homes and other places. The headquarters provided displaced residents with 102 emergency relief sets along with daily necessities, food, and beverages, and provided meals in some areas.
Some facilities remain under restriction. Passage is restricted on 48 roads, 18 riverbed roads, and 10 underpasses. Access has also been restricted at 41 riverside parking lots, 30 low-water crossings, and 753 riverside areas. At national parks, 156 trails across eight parks including Gyeryongsan, Bukhansan, and Songnisan were closed, and use was restricted at 116 other facilities such as campgrounds.
Most transportation restrictions, including on railways and passenger services, have been lifted.
