Goyang, a city in Gyeonggi Province, searched the homes of 35 high-value and habitual tax delinquents in the first half of this year, seizing 318 items including luxury bags and watches, and collecting and securing 1.368 billion won in unpaid taxes. The enforcement action targeted "unscrupulous delinquents" who evaded taxes despite having the ability to pay.
According to Goyang on the 10th, the city's collection division investigated the residences of 35 high-value delinquents who deliberately avoided paying taxes, through joint searches with Gyeonggi Province and its own searches in the first half. The city secured 436 million won by collecting on the spot or inducing installment payments, and obtained 932 million won in tax payment guarantees on conditions such as suspension of delinquency dispositions.
During the searches, the city identified and immediately seized 318 items of movable property and securities, including luxury bags, watches, precious metals, and gift certificates that delinquents had hidden in their homes. This revealed circumstances in which individuals with sufficient ability to pay had concealed assets and delayed paying taxes.
To sell the seized movable property and apply it to the unpaid taxes, the city will hold the "2026 Gyeonggi Province Joint Movable Property Auction" jointly with Gyeonggi Province at the Grand Ballroom of KINTEX Exhibition Hall 1 on the 27th of next month. The total volume submitted by Gyeonggi Province is about 800 items, of which Goyang's submission accounts for 211 items, the most among the province's 31 cities and counties. It includes a large number of top-tier luxury goods seized on site.
"For unscrupulous delinquents who deliberately avoid paying taxes despite having the ability to pay, we will mobilize to the end the strongest collection tools the law allows, including home searches and forced auctions," a Goyang official said. "We will establish fair and just tax administration so that the many citizens who faithfully pay their taxes do not feel a relative sense of deprivation."
