Korea University Sejong Campus said on the 9th that it has been selected as the operating institution for the Convergence Security Graduate School (AI) under the "2026 Convergence Security Core Talent Development Program," led by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).
The Convergence Security Core Talent Development Program is a national talent development initiative that supports the establishment and operation of graduate schools and trains top-tier master's and doctoral-level research and development personnel to counter convergence security threats spreading across industries.
Korea University Sejong Campus has secured a total project budget of 6.05 billion won, including 5.5 billion won in government-funded research and development support, over five years and six months through 2031.
To respond to the rapidly changing artificial intelligence (AI) technology environment, Korea University Sejong Campus presented its vision of a "continuously evolving AI Security Frontier Graduate School." Based on its capabilities in developing safe and trustworthy AI systems, the university plans to train "First Mover-type AX security talent" who proactively respond to new AI technologies and lead industrial innovation.
The program will be carried out primarily through the graduate-level Department of AI Cyber Security. In particular, the university plans to build a system that allows outstanding students to advance from undergraduate to graduate programs by linking the nation's first undergraduate Department of AI Cyber Security with the "Intelligent Incident Response Track" of the Information Security Specialized University program.
To this end, the bachelor's-master's fast-track program will allow students to complete their degrees in a minimum of five years, and the bachelor's-master's-doctoral fast-track program in a minimum of six years. The university also plans to expand scholarship support to identify outstanding undergraduate talent early and provide an environment for continuous degree attainment and stable research immersion.
In addition, the university will systematically train talent equipped with "A-SHIELD" competencies based on a full-cycle talent development system linking education, research, practical training, and career development. A-SHIELD refers to seven core competencies: Adaptive, Specialized, Hands-on, Integrated, Exploratory, Leadership, and Developing.
Research will proceed in stages — from core security technology research in each field, to demand-driven industry-academia collaboration projects, to technology integration and verification — centered on the four core fields of AI convergence security.
The university also plans to expand project-based education and field training that reflects corporate demand, and to enhance students' research capabilities and global competitiveness through cooperation with leading domestic and international research institutions.
"We will develop Korea University Sejong Campus into a hub leading AI convergence security education and research in Korea, and train world-class AI security core talent needed by industry and the nation," said Kim Hee-seok, a professor in the Department of AI Cyber Security.
