Employees of the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) have delivered funds raised through walking donations to young people aging out of foster care.
KORAIL said on the 9th that it delivered 25 million won in donations, raised through an employee "walking donation" challenge, to youth leaving foster care at its headquarters in Daejeon.
The donations will be used through Save the Children as education expenses for six youths in the Daejeon area who are set to leave foster care, helping them obtain employment certifications.
KORAIL conducted the "Walking Donation Challenge" for one month in June, involving employees and their families.
Under the format, a donation is made when participants achieve at least 6,000 steps a day over 30 days for a total of 900 million steps. More than 3,700 people nationwide took part, gathering 1 billion steps.
Launched in 2024, KORAIL's walking donation program is establishing itself as a new social contribution initiative on the back of high employee participation.
"We will continue to advance participatory social contribution programs to lead the spread of a culture of sharing and fulfill our social responsibility as a public corporation," said Lee Jong-heum, head of KORAIL's volunteer corps.
