The Dongducheon Facilities Management Corporation in Gyeonggi Province said on the 9th that it will waive entry and parking fees at the Dongducheon Natural Recreation Forest.
The measure aims to return to citizens the manpower and budget saved through a recently pursued "smart operations transition." The corporation plans to implement the fee waiver once the city council completes its ordinance revision at the end of July.
In May, the corporation introduced "smart check-in" based on smart door locks. The contactless system sends a room PIN number to the reserving guest's mobile phone, allowing entry without waiting at the front desk. Through this, check-in waits that averaged 30 minutes during peak season have virtually disappeared.
The corporation is pursuing full integration with the Korea Forest Service's "Sup Nadeul-e" system in August and September. It is also planning a trial operation of unmanned kiosks in the second half of the year.
"The role of a public institution is not to stop at improving operational efficiency but to return those gains to citizens," said Lee Jong-jin, chairman of the corporation. "We will implement the fee waiver immediately once the ordinance revision is finalized."
