Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Kori Nuclear Power Site Division has launched a transit card voucher program to ease the transportation cost burden for vulnerable local youths.
The Kori division held a ceremony to deliver funds for its "Kori-On" youth transit card voucher welfare program at the division's public relations hall in Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan, on Tuesday, it said Wednesday.
The "Kori-On" program provides prepaid transit cards worth 100,000 won per person to vulnerable youths in Gijang-gun who face difficulties traveling due to transportation costs.
The Kori division delivered 157 million won in program funds to the Dahaengbokhan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center that day. The funds will be provided to 1,500 middle and high school students among basic livelihood recipients and the near-poor class through an application process.
The Kori division expects the program will not only reduce youths' transportation cost burden but also help close the education gap by expanding their opportunities to participate in learning, culture, and leisure activities.
The Kori division and the Dahaengbokhan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center attended the event, where they shared the direction of the program and discussed cooperation measures to guarantee local youths' mobility rights and expand their participation in educational and cultural activities.
"The purpose of this program is to support local youths so they can participate in various educational and cultural activities without the burden of transportation costs," said Nam Young-gyu, head of the external cooperation department at the Kori division. "We will continue to identify and pursue various social contribution programs that local residents can tangibly feel."
