The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is removing all speed gates installed at its southern headquarters to create an open building.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education said Wednesday it would carry out the removal of the speed gates at its southern headquarters, reflecting the sixth popularly elected administration's emphasis on field-centered communication and to move closer to the education front lines.
The removal targets speed gates installed from the third basement level to the first floor of the education office's southern headquarters. The measure is part of an improvement to the access management system aimed at enhancing accessibility for education families and civil petitioners visiting the building and creating a more open building environment.
At the removal ceremony held at the southern headquarters that day, Superintendent Ahn Min-seok said, "The education office is now an open space that anyone can enter comfortably," adding, "We chose an open model over a closed education office, a shut-off education office."
He continued, "It is not that we are going ahead because we are not afraid," and said, "I believe that true courage is doing what must be done even when we are afraid."
The removal ceremony was attended by representatives of three teachers' organizations, including the Gyeonggi Federation of Teachers' Associations, the Gyeonggi Teachers' Union, and the Gyeonggi branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers' Union, as well as the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's workplace council, the Neulpum parents' group, provincial residents, and other officials.
The education office plans to improve visitor entry procedures through this removal and take the first step toward realizing an open superintendent's office. It also intends to maintain building security safely and efficiently by operating an information desk and supplementing visitor entry management procedures, while enhancing the convenience of movement for building users.
