Gyeonggi Arts Center will present stages across various genres, including classical music, traditional Korean music, musicals and family performances, through the "2026 G-ARTS FESTIVAL" throughout July.
The center announced Monday that it will continue the fervor of the performing arts festival in July, following the full-fledged start of the festival marked by the Gyeonggi Performing Arts Meeting (GPAM) in June.
The July program consists of signature performances by the Gyeonggi Arts Center's resident companies as well as shows for children and family audiences. It is designed to allow residents of the province to enjoy the performing arts more closely.
First, the Gyeonggi Provincial Theater Company will stage the trot musical "Cheerful Family" from the 10th to the 11th. The work is a family musical combining trot and comedy, and is set to deliver laughter and warm emotion that spans generations.
On the 11th, the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra's special performance "Overture to the Festival" will be held at the Gyeonggi Arts Center's Grand Theater. Led by conductor Hong Seok-won, the Gyeonggi Philharmonic will present familiar classical masterpieces including the Carmen Overture, the Nabucco Overture, Pomp and Circumstance, Hungarian Dance and Slavonic Dance.
On the 15th, the Gyeonggi Rivera Orchestra's "The Moment Summer Descended" will be held as a free performance. Top domestic vocalists and a trumpet player will join to present a wide-ranging repertoire including opera, musicals and film music.
Marking the 30th anniversary of its founding, the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra will perform the music drama "Baekbeom Kim Gu: A Nation of Culture" from the 24th to the 25th. The work was planned to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Baekbeom Kim Gu and the UNESCO commemorative year.
The performance combines traditional Korean orchestral music, theater, dance, chorus and video to bring to the stage the meaning of the cultured nation that Kim Gu dreamed of.
Performances for children and family audiences during the summer vacation have also been prepared. The program themed "Mom and Baby" invites infant and toddler performances from four foreign countries, including Japan, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Lithuania.
The invited works from Japan and the Czech Republic will be held at the Gyeonggi Arts Center's Convention Hall, while the works from Belgium and Lithuania will be held at the Small Theater. Through performances tailored to the developmental stages of infants and toddlers, children and their guardians can experience art together.
In addition, from the 24th to the 25th, the children's play "Dragon" will be held at the Gugak Hall of the Gyeonggi Gugak Center. In a non-verbal theater format that minimizes language, it stimulates children's imagination and curiosity.
The performance is presented as an experiential stage in which the audience participates directly and creates the story together, and is set to offer family audiences special memories.
"For July as well, we have prepared programs that anyone can enjoy together, from resident company performances to family shows," a Gyeonggi Arts Center official said. "We hope many residents will visit the venues and experience the charm of the performing arts."
