The Daejeon city government said Tuesday it is accepting applications through July 14 for the "19th Junior Doctor," a program to be held over summer vacation for young students nationwide.
"Junior Doctor" is a leading domestic science culture program sponsored by the Daejeon city government and organized by the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI). Through the program, students experience the advanced research facilities and achievements of the Daedeok Science Complex firsthand, deepening their interest in and understanding of science.
"Junior Doctor" will run for six weeks, from July 21 to August 28. A total of 35 institutions will participate, including the Korea Basic Science Institute along with government-funded research institutes, public institutions, universities and private organizations within the Daedeok Science Complex. The program will also be held in Busan, Daegu, Gwangju and Ochang, where KBSI regional centers are located.
The in-person program will feature about 110 topics across some 300 sessions. Non-face-to-face content, such as Science DIY Challenges and online science classes, will also be offered, aiming to help more young students access science culture regardless of region or circumstances.
In addition, an invitational program will be run for about 180 students (18 schools) at priority schools designated under the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education's Educational Welfare Priority Support Project.
"Through cooperation with local research institutions, we will continue to expand diverse science experience opportunities where future science talents can nurture their dreams," a city official said.
