The Ministry of Justice's Committee for a Future of Prosecution Respecting Human Rights (Prosecution Future Committee) has decided to strengthen its cooperation framework with a fact-finding team investigating suspicions of human rights violations and abuse of authority in the exercise of prosecutorial power, and to extend the deadline for receiving public petition cases.
The Ministry of Justice said Monday that the Prosecution Future Committee held a meeting with officials from the fact-finding team at its fourth session on the 3rd, where it received a report on the team's composition and operational status. The committee and the fact-finding team agreed to cooperate closely for a swift and thorough investigation going forward.
At the session, the committee discussed measures for selecting additional cases subject to fact-finding investigation in order to broadly examine suspicions of human rights violations and abuse of authority that occurred in the exercise of prosecutorial power. It also decided to extend the deadline for receiving public petition cases by two weeks from the original schedule, accepting submissions until the 18th.
"Through the extension, we plan to sufficiently gather public opinion regarding wrongful human rights violations or suspicions of prosecutorial abuse of power," the committee said.
