Gyeonggi Province will officially launch the "Gyeonggi Migrant Portal" on Monday, consolidating migrant information that had been scattered across different agencies into a single location. The integrated platform aims to help migrants who have faced language and information barriers settle into local communities.
According to Gyeonggi Province on Sunday, the migrant portal provides integrated information needed by migrants, including living, administrative, employment, education, medical and welfare services. The initiative seeks to resolve the problem of migrants having difficulty finding needed information because it had been dispersed across various agencies and websites.
The core of the portal is generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The portal is equipped with an AI-based chatbot and automatic multilingual translation. Migrants unfamiliar with Korean can check information in their native languages, and the portal offers real-time question-and-answer services by learning frequently asked questions in areas such as residency status, labor and daily life.
The portal also features community functions for communication among users. In regional communities, users can share experiences using medical services, education information and news about local events. Using location-based services, users can also find practical, everyday information centered on their residential areas.
The province completed construction of the portal in late May and conducted a trial run targeting internal staff and migrant communities. The portal can be accessed through searches on major portal sites starting Monday. It was built as a responsive website that automatically optimizes for PC, smartphone and tablet screens.
"This is an integrated platform designed to help migrants who face difficulties due to language and information barriers use needed information more easily and quickly," said Yoon Hyun-ok, head of Gyeonggi Province's Immigration and Social Policy Division. "We will continue to reflect field opinions and develop it into a flagship service that supports migrants' stable settlement in local communities and social integration."
