The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City said Monday it will strengthen inspection and management of vehicles engaged in long-term parking at free public parking lots in the Gwangju area. The measure follows a revision to the Parking Lot Act that establishes enforcement standards for vehicles parked long-term for more than one month.
The revised Parking Lot Act changed the definition of long-term parking from "parked in a fixed spot for more than one month" to "parked continuously for more than one month." As a result, even if a vehicle changes its parking position within the same lot, it will be classified as long-term parking if it remains for more than one month, allowing administrative measures such as relocation orders.
Until the revision takes effect, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City will focus on guidance-oriented activities, including inspecting the status of long-term parking at public lots and advising vehicle owners to move voluntarily. From Aug. 28, the effective date of the revised Parking Lot Act, it will begin administrative measures such as relocation orders.
