
A late-night fire at a Buddhist temple in Sancheong County, South Gyeongsang Province, killed a man in his 60s.
According to fire authorities Thursday, the fire broke out at around 11:56 p.m. the previous day in the living quarters (yosachae) of a temple in Dongdang-ri, Sicheon-myeon, Sancheong County. The fire came to light after a nearby resident spotted black smoke and flames and reported it.
Fire authorities, who responded to the report, deployed 42 personnel including firefighters and 15 pieces of equipment to fight the blaze, extinguishing it completely at around 12:52 a.m. that day.
The fire destroyed the living quarters entirely, and a man in his 60s who was inside the building died. The man who died was found to have been in the living quarters at the time of the fire.
Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of property damage.
