The city of Bucheon will raise community bus fares starting Jan. 11. The move comes as rising transportation costs, including labor and fuel expenses, have increased the burden on the industry.
According to Bucheon on Monday, the city will adjust community bus fares based on transit cards to 1,650 won for adults, 1,160 won for teenagers, and 830 won for children. This represents an increase of 200 won for adults, 150 won for teenagers, and 100 won for children from previous fares.
The city said the management burden on the community bus industry has accumulated as transportation costs have continued to rise recently. It judged that fare normalization was unavoidable to establish a stable foundation for public transportation operations.
However, the city added that it limited the extent of the increase to a minimum level in consideration of the burden on residents. Through this adjustment, the city aims to improve transportation conditions and establish a foundation for stable service provision.
The city will also continue to pursue improvements in the community bus usage environment and enhancements in public transportation service quality. It plans to concentrate its administrative capabilities on increasing convenience for residents and providing safe transportation services.
"This fare adjustment is an unavoidable measure for the stable operation of public transportation," a city official said. "We will minimize inconvenience to residents and provide safer and more convenient transportation services."
