Daegu Election Body Belatedly Probes Misdelivery of 44 Voting Notices

Dozens of voting notices containing personal information were mistakenly delivered to a single household just before the June 3 nationwide local elections, it has been revealed.

The Daegu Metropolitan Election Commission said Tuesday that it belatedly discovered after the election that dozens of voting notices containing personal information had been wrongly delivered to one household, and has begun preparing measures to prevent a recurrence.

According to the commission, the Hwawon-eup Election Commission sent election bulletins and voting notices to voters in its jurisdiction last month. It later confirmed that election bulletins had been omitted from some households and proceeded with additional mailings.

During this process, however, the metropolitan election commission found on the 10th of this month that 44 voting notices listing the names and addresses of 80 voters had been wrongly delivered to one household. The commission retrieved them the following day.

"We have informed the 80 voters of the fact that their personal information was leaked and the circumstances of the leak," the commission said. "We will do our best to ensure such a case does not happen again in the future."
