South Jeolla Province (Jeonnam) and Gwangju City said Saturday they will fully launch the "Southwestern (Jeonnam-Gwangju) Regional Innovation Cluster Task Force," centered on the energy industry, following their integrated launch on July 1.
The Southwestern Regional Innovation Cluster Task Force will be led by the Jeonnam Regional Industry Promotion Agency as the lead organization, with a total of 13 innovation institutions and universities participating, including the Gwangju Regional Industry Promotion Agency, Korea Electric Power Corporation, the Jeonnam and Gwangju Technopark, the Green Energy Research Institute, and Chonnam National University.
From 2026 to 2030, the program will receive annual funding of 15.3 billion won (10.2 billion won in national funds and 5.1 billion won in local funds) to support the strengthening of regional industry competitiveness and the creation of new industries by linking the specialized industries and innovation resources of Jeonnam and Gwangju.
Jeonnam Province plans to strengthen cooperation with Gwangju City centered on the Energy Valley and regional innovation institutions, and to actively pursue the creation of a mega-regional innovation ecosystem based on the energy industry and support the growth of local companies.
