A subcontractor's worker was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest after an accident at a Yongin plant operated by Ourhome, a food processing company.
At around 2:53 p.m. Wednesday, a subcontractor's worker identified as A was caught by the neck in a conveyor belt at a fish cake skewer packaging workshop on the fourth floor of Ourhome's Yongin No. 2 plant in Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
A was rescued in cardiac arrest and moved to Korea Hospital in Osan at around 3:25 p.m.
Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a joint-response request from the fire authorities. They secured the area, obtained CCTV footage and began questioning witnesses.
Police presume that the accident occurred when a headscarf the worker was wearing during the operation became entangled in the conveyor belt machine.
Police plan to examine whether the company took all necessary measures to prevent the accident.
A similar accident occurred at Ourhome's Yongin No. 2 plant about a year earlier, killing a worker. On April 4 last year, a worker in his 30s identified as B was caught by the neck in a cooling machine at the plant and moved to a hospital in cardiac arrest, but died five days later on April 9.
