"Make Daegu Great Again."
Choo Kyung-ho, the mayor-elect of Daegu, officially launched his mayoral transition committee Wednesday, beginning preparations for the ninth popularly elected city administration.
Choo held a sign-unveiling ceremony for the transition committee at the Daegu Content Center on Wednesday afternoon, presented appointment letters to committee members, and then held a press conference.
The transition committee's slogan, "Strong Again! Great Again!" was displayed at the press conference venue.
He stressed that he would communicate with citizens regardless of whether they supported him, while remaining cautious on major issues such as the integrated new airport, saying he would "proceed after sufficient review."
Choo first reiterated his emphasis on communication with citizens, saying, "Regardless of support, I will think of all citizens as the owners and partners who must resolve Daegu's pending issues and open up its future, and I will communicate with them."
On the integrated new airport, the biggest pending issue, he said, "(During the campaign) I said it should be led by the state. As for specifically how to do it, I will listen sufficiently to the progress and find the optimal plan. I will also listen to the opinions of local lawmakers."
Regarding personnel and organizational matters such as the economic vice mayor, he said, "I don't think it is yet the stage to present principles or guidelines on personnel. As for organizational restructuring, I will sort it out by listening to specific input and communicating."
Asked about legal risks related to the martial law, he answered, "In accordance with the law and principles, I will confidently explain what needs to be explained and overcome this."
After the press conference, Choo paid a visit to former President Park Geun-hye's private residence in Dalseong County.
Explaining the visit, he said, "She is a former president, she lives in Daegu, and she gave her support during the election process, so I judged it was proper to visit and greet her in person rather than (by phone or text message), which is why I made the visit."
