A man in his 70s was arrested by police for repeatedly firing metal balls downward with a slingshot from the eighth floor of his apartment building.
According to police, the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station booked Mr. A, who is in his 70s, without detention on Friday on charges of attempted special bodily injury and is investigating the case.
Mr. A is accused of firing more than 10 metal balls from a slingshot toward the first floor from the eighth floor of an apartment building in Sinyong-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, at around 7 p.m. the previous day. There were no casualties, but a vehicle parked in a parking lot near a church about 80 meters from the apartment complex was damaged.
Police who arrived at the scene after receiving a report reviewed nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, identified Mr. A as a suspect, and arrested him at his residence. They also found and seized the slingshot capable of firing metal balls inside his home.
In the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated to the effect that "I fired it as a test to see whether the metal balls would launch." After Mr. A denied damaging the vehicle, police changed the initially applied charge of special property destruction to attempted special bodily injury and are working to determine the exact circumstances of the case.
