Korea's first "park golf tourism train" is coming to Cheongyang, South Chungcheong Province.
Cheongyang County said on the 5th that it had been selected for the nation's first "park golf tourism train," combining railway tourism with sports.
Through a collaboration with Korail Tourism Development, the county has developed Korea's first railway-park golf collaborative tourism product, and plans to fully operate the "Park Golf in Cheongyang" tourism train targeting metropolitan-area tourists on June 20.
The program is a stay-type sports tourism offering, designed so that visitors can enjoy Cheongyang's pristine major tourist sites and the Wangjinnaru Park Golf Course in a single trip, using the Paldojangteo Tourism Train and connecting buses.
Participants will depart from Seoul Station and arrive at Jochiwon Station, then visit Chilgap Tower, Cheongyang's representative tourism landmark, experiencing the observation tower, skywalk, and waterside observatory in sequence.
The itinerary then proceeds with a 36-hole round at the Wangjinnaru Park Golf Course in Cheongnam-myeon.
The "Wangjinnaru Park Golf Course," which Korail Tourism Development chose as its first operating destination, recently completed infrastructure expansion to enable the hosting of national competitions. With a total budget of 1.6 billion won invested in the Geumgang riverside area of Wangjin-ri, Cheongnam-myeon (approximately 27,290 square meters), it was expanded from the existing 18 holes to a 36-hole scale.
The county's strategy is to use the South Chungcheong Provincial Park Golf Course (108 holes), scheduled to open next year, and the newly expanded Wangjinnaru Park Golf Course (36 holes) as its two main pillars, linking nearby resources such as Chilgapsan and Cheonjangho Lake to develop into a sports and tourism hub city of Korea.
"We will revitalize local tourism and the local economy by utilizing park golf assets," a county official said.
