Strong showers accompanied by thunder and lightning will fall across parts of Korea on Thursday, the 4th. The heat is expected to ease somewhat next week.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's regular briefing that day, showers of 5 to 60mm will fall nationwide between the afternoon and evening. The atmosphere has become unstable as a trough carrying cold air aloft approaches while the lower atmosphere is heated by sunlight.
Heavy rain of up to 80mm has been forecast mainly in eastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, and northern Chungbuk. With large regional variations in rainfall, some areas will see rain at the level of a heavy rain advisory. In particular, sudden gusts, thunder and lightning, and hail may accompany the rain, so caution against safety accidents is needed.
From Thursday night through the morning of the 5th, a rain cloud band from the trough will move in, bringing about 5mm of rain to the central region and the Jeolla area. On the weekend, cloudy weather will continue as Korea comes under the edge of a high-pressure system. Swell waves will roll into the East Coast and the coasts of Jeju, and high seas are expected in the far waters south of Jeju on the 7th, requiring caution during maritime activities.
Early next week, relatively cool weather will arrive. With cold air lingering over Korea, temperatures will be similar to or slightly below the seasonal average. On Monday, the 8th, Seoul's morning low is expected to be 17 degrees and the daytime high 26 degrees. However, from Thursday, Seoul's daytime temperature will rise again to around 30 degrees.
