"Through the integrated new airport, we will open Gyeongbuk's skyway, and through the administrative integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, we will build a grand path to compete with the capital region and step out into the world."
Lee Cheol-woo, the governor-elect of Gyeongsangbuk-do (North Gyeongsang Province) who won a third term, delivered his victory remarks on Tuesday, saying, "This victory is a solemn mandate from the residents to defend Gyeongbuk and make it the center of Korea's regional era."
Lee said he had taken to heart the voices heard during the campaign, including "young people's concerns about jobs, the elderly's concerns about medical care and elderly care, and small business owners' and farmers' and fishermen's concerns about their livelihoods."
"From now on, it is only Gyeongbuk," he stressed. "I will bring divided hearts together again and turn scattered strength into burning energy that opens Gyeongbuk's future."
He added, "I will do everything in my role to rebuild trust in the conservative right and to protect liberal democracy and the future of Korea's young people."
