The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced Thursday that it will admit 330 students starting from the 2027 academic year, an increase of 100 from the previous year, following the establishment of a new "AI College." The institute said it plans to expand the cultivation of talent in advanced science and technology fields such as AI, semiconductors, and bio.
Building on initiatives including the new AI College, GIST will hold a "Joint Admissions Briefing for the Four Science and Technology Institutes for the 2027 Academic Year" on the 13th, together with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST).
The briefing, to be held in Dasan Hall on the second floor of GIST's Oryong Building, will provide practical admissions information, including key points of the 2027 admissions process, the desired talent profile and curriculum, the convergence- and research-centered educational environment, scholarships and student support programs, and post-graduation career paths and research achievements.
In particular, the event will offer question-and-answer sessions and individual counseling for students hoping to enroll in the four science and technology institutes, including GIST, to enhance their understanding of the admissions process and support customized enrollment planning.
The "Department of Semiconductor Engineering," a contract department operated in cooperation with Samsung Electronics to secure competitiveness in core and convergence semiconductor technologies and to cultivate industry-oriented high-level talent, will recruit new students beyond the quota.
Students admitted to the Department of Semiconductor Engineering will earn their degrees through an integrated bachelor's and master's program before pursuing a career path linked to employment at Samsung Electronics.
"Based on an education and research environment that meets the demands of the times, including the new AI College and the operation of the Department of Semiconductor Engineering, GIST will do its best to cultivate talent who will lead future advanced industries," said Lee Su-jung, head of GIST's Office of Admissions and Student Affairs.
