Gyeonggi Governor-elect Choo Mi-ae pledged Thursday to "take responsibility for opening the path to a grand transformation and a proud Gyeonggi," saying she would "faithfully uphold the changes and outcomes that residents want."
Choo visited her election camp in Ingye-dong, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province at around 12:08 a.m., shortly after midnight, to share the joy of victory with Democratic Party officials, after her win was confirmed and her rival, People Power Party candidate Yang Hyang-ja, issued a concession message.
Holding an armful of flower bouquets, Choo expressed her gratitude in her acceptance remarks, saying, "I have never walked an easy path, and no matter how difficult it has been to keep my principles and convictions, I have practiced politics looking only at the people. The residents of Gyeonggi Province trusted that sincerity and chose me."
She added, "I believe this choice goes beyond support for an individual and reflects the residents' aspirations for the normalization of the Republic of Korea and major change in Gyeonggi Province. Personally, it is the greatest honor, but at the same time I feel a heavy responsibility."
Choo identified resolving issues in transportation, housing, jobs and balanced development as the direction of her provincial administration. "I will untangle one by one the various pending issues facing Gyeonggi Province," she said. "I will communicate closely and join forces with Gyeonggi's National Assembly members and the newly elected heads of 31 cities and counties, provincial council members and basic-level council members."
Choo concluded by saying, "Once again, I sincerely thank the residents," reaffirming her commitment to focus on meeting residents' expectations rather than celebrating her victory.
