"I will make Daegu a city where businesses come, where young people return, and the center of Korea's future industries."
Choo Kyung-ho, the People Power Party's mayor-elect of Daegu, expressed his ambition on Wednesday, saying, "The result of this election is a stern order to revive Daegu's collapsed economy and reawaken the city's underlying strength."
"Daegu must now move toward the path of integration," Choo said. "I will cherish the will of those who supported me as well as those who chose other candidates, and serve as a mayor for all citizens, looking only at Daegu's development."
He emphasized that "Daegu was a symbol of Korea's industrialization and still has excellent human resources and an industrial base." Choo added, "I will mobilize all my experience as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in charge of the national economy, my network capable of moving the central government and the National Assembly, and my proven execution capabilities to make Daegu's economy run again."
Addressing his opponent Kim Boo-kyum, Choo said, "I believe we were no different in our concern for Daegu's future. I will also listen with an open mind to the various opinions and proposals presented during the campaign."
"I will engrave deep in my heart the plea to 'please save Daegu's economy,' and I will never forget for a moment the precious trust placed in me to lead the city government, and I will surely respond with results," Choo said.
