A dispute broke out at a polling station in Yongin on Tuesday after a voter failed to exercise her right to vote because she did not receive one of her ballots during the 9th nationwide local elections.
According to accounts gathered from people present at the polling station, a woman in her 60s, identified as A, demanded a re-vote at around 2 p.m. at Polling Station No. 9 in Singal-dong, Yongin, telling a polling official that she "did not receive a ballot for the mayoral election."
A had received a total of four ballots in two rounds during the voting process. She first received ballots for the Gyeonggi Province governor and education superintendent elections, and was then handed ballots for the Gyeonggi Province and Yongin City proportional representation elections. However, she did not receive a ballot for the mayoral election.
It was only after completing her vote that A realized she had not voted in the mayoral election, and she questioned the official about why the ballot had not been issued.
During this process, it was found that another voter who had been casting a ballot near A had received two mayoral election ballots and returned one of them.
Following A's protest, polling officials reportedly inquired with the National Election Commission about the matter but were told that a re-vote was not possible since A had already left the polling station.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Election Commission is reportedly verifying the facts of the case.
