Yoo Jeong-bok, the People Power Party's candidate for Incheon mayor who is suspected of failing to disclose cryptocurrency holdings in his asset declaration, faces additional criminal referral.
According to the National Election Commission (NEC) on Tuesday, the Incheon Metropolitan Election Commission filed a complaint with the Incheon Police Agency on the 1st, accusing Yoo of violating the Public Official Election Act.
The NEC announced the previous day that the assets of Yoo's spouse, originally reported at 439.88 million won, should have been 518.57 million won. It also stated that Yoo's total family assets should have been approximately 1.92297 billion won, rather than the reported 1.84472 billion won.
In connection with the matter, the election campaign committee of Park Chan-dae, the Democratic Party's candidate for Incheon mayor, filed a complaint against Yoo and his spouse for violating the Public Official Election Act and the Public Service Ethics Act. The case is being handled by the Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit of the Incheon Police Agency, which plans to merge the latest NEC complaint into the ongoing probe. Yoo's side has filed counter-complaints against those raising the allegations on charges including spreading false information.
