A man in his 20s who killed a woman in her 20s in Seoul's Gangdong district was placed in custody on the 3rd.
Lee Ji-min, a judge at the Seoul Eastern District Court, issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified only as A, after holding a pre-detention hearing, citing "concerns that he may flee."
A is accused of stabbing and killing a woman in her 20s, identified as B, in the early hours of the 1st in Gangdong. After leaving the area immediately following the attack, A turned himself in to police at around 5:40 a.m. that morning. The Seoul Gangdong Police Station investigated the motive and applied for an arrest warrant for A the previous day.
Police are conducting their investigation on the assumption that A and the victim may have been in a romantic relationship. However, no prior stalking reports or related criminal complaints between the two have been confirmed thus far.
Police plan to conduct further investigation into the precise circumstances and motive of the crime.
A appeared at the court at around 2 p.m. for the pre-detention hearing and declined to answer reporters' questions, including "What was the reason for the killing?" and "Do you admit to the charges?"
Police plan to refer A to the prosecution once the additional investigation into the detained suspect is completed.
