Jung Keun-sik, the incumbent candidate seeking reelection as Seoul Superintendent of Education, is projected to win in the 9th nationwide local elections held Tuesday.
According to a joint exit poll released by three terrestrial broadcasters — KBS, MBC and SBS — immediately after voting ended, Jung, a progressive-leaning candidate, was projected to receive 39.0% of the vote.
Conservative-leaning candidate Cho Jeon-hyuk came in second with 21.2%, trailing Jung by 17.8 percentage points.
If the actual vote count matches the exit poll results, Jung will secure reelection following his victory in last year's by-election that initially brought him to the post of Seoul Superintendent of Education.
