Cho Ki-seong, a member of Yongin City's workplace sports team for para swimmers, posted strong results at an international competition.
According to Yongin City on Tuesday, Cho was the first to touch the pad in the 150m individual medley at the Para Swimming World Series held in Shizuoka, Japan, from the 29th to the 31st of last month.
The competition, organized by World Para Swimming, brought together athletes from 29 countries who competed with the skills they had honed.
Cho posted a strong record of 2 minutes 43.96 seconds in the 150m individual medley final. This was a full 6 seconds faster than his record of 2 minutes 49.28 seconds set at the same competition held in Guadalajara, Mexico, from June 12 to 15 last year.
Cho also demonstrated his sharpened skills by finishing second in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 50 seconds.
"This competition serves as a warm-up event for Cho to gain practical experience ahead of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Paralympic Games to be held in Japan this September, and will be an important milestone on the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games," a Yongin City official said. "The city will provide systematic support so that workplace sports team athletes can achieve good results going forward."
Meanwhile, buoyed by Cho's outstanding performance, the city's workplace sports team for para swimmers has been posting excellent results since its launch in January last year, winning a total of 32 medals, including 22 golds, 7 silvers and 3 bronzes.
