Jun Jae-soo, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Busan mayor, made a final push for votes on Monday, one day ahead of the June 3 local elections, declaring it "the last chance to revive Busan."
In his final campaign message, Jun said, "Busan stands at an important crossroads," adding, "We must choose whether to stop here or run forward with renewed vigor."
He appealed for support by citing livelihood issues he encountered while meeting citizens during the campaign. "I have taken to heart the sighs of market merchants, the anxiety of young people, and the voices of parents struggling to raise children," Jun said. "I will be a mayor who changes the lives of citizens."
He framed the election as a decisive moment for securing Busan's future growth engines. Jun cited the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan, the establishment of the Busan Maritime Specialized Court, the attraction of major shipping companies including HMM, and the development of the Arctic shipping route, asserting that "the change to transform Busan's destiny has already begun."
The remarks are seen as highlighting that Busan's development can be accelerated through policy coordination with the Lee Jae-myung administration. He emphasized that he is the right person to resolve regional issues through cooperation between the central government and local government.
"I will not miss this golden opportunity and will translate it into changes in life that citizens can feel firsthand," Jun said. "I will prove Busan's change through results rather than words, and through execution rather than political strife."
He continued, "Each citizen's vote will determine the future of Busan that our children will live in," promising, "I will work and work again for Busan and for its citizens."
