Incheon International Airport Corporation is expanding its bike-sharing service around the airport to improve commuting convenience for resident employees and support the government's energy-saving policy.
The corporation said Monday that it will expand the bike-sharing service around the airport in partnership with bike-sharing operator Bong Mobility, marking the United Nations' "World Bicycle Day" on the 3rd of this month.
The move comes amid recent high oil prices and energy supply concerns, aiming to promote the use of eco-friendly transportation and enhance mobility around the airport.
Since signing a business agreement with Bong Mobility last year, the corporation has carried out repaving of dedicated bike lanes, installation of exclusive racks, and promotional campaigns to boost usage.
With the service expansion, users can freely rent and return bicycles within the service zone, including Incheon Airport Terminal 1, Sky Garden, the logistics complex, the airport new town, and the cargo terminal.
In particular, new rental and return hubs have been established at Airport Cargo Terminal Station on the Airport Railroad and at the cargo terminal entrance. The corporation added these locations based on the results of a demand survey of resident employees and expects commuting convenience linked with public transportation to improve.
The corporation plans to conduct a three-month pilot operation to review usage performance and safety before deciding whether to convert it into a regular service.
"We will continue to work with the corporation to create an eco-friendly mobility environment around the airport," said Ko Bong-soo, CEO of Bong Mobility, the operator of Ttabong Bike.
"We will continue to expand the low-carbon, eco-friendly mobility ecosystem around the airport to support the government's energy policy and contribute to reducing carbon emissions," said Kim Chang-gyu, head of the operations division at Incheon International Airport Corporation.
