Jeju Province will provide travel subsidies to individual tourists visiting the island in June, in a promotional campaign aimed at easing the burden of rising travel costs.
Jeju Province and the Jeju Tourism Organization announced Sunday that they will run an appreciation promotion from June 4 to June 30, offering travel subsidies to individual tourists visiting the island.
The promotion targets individual tourists aged 14 or older who stay in Jeju for two or more nights and sign up for the digital tourism pass "NOWDA." Those staying between two and four nights will receive 20,000 won in local currency, while those staying five nights or more will receive 50,000 won in local currency.
The initiative was designed to reduce the cost burden on tourists as overall travel expenses, including fuel surcharges and rental car fees, have risen amid recent high oil prices and inflation.
The first phase of operations will run from June 4 to June 14 at the "Jeju Running Week Promotion Booth" located across from Gate 3 on the first floor of Jeju International Airport. From June 15, the second phase will continue at the Jeju Tourism Organization's Jungmun Duty Free Shop.
Tourists wishing to participate must bring their identification along with flight or ferry reservation confirmations verifying a stay of two or more nights. They must also present accommodation booking records or rental car reservation confirmations at the site to complete the process. However, beneficiaries of other incentive programs, such as the Jeju Tourism Association's group tourist incentive support program, are excluded.
The promotion will end early if the allocated budget is exhausted. The province has secured a budget of 800 million won.
In addition, the province and the organization will operate a "Delicious Jeju Travel Event" from June 4 to June 14, targeting tourists who visit at least two restaurants in designated categories, including Good Price Establishments, Century Stores, and Gourmet Spoon. Tourists who verify their receipts will receive Jeju souvenirs at the Jeju International Airport booth on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 100 participants.
"This promotion was prepared to ease the increased travel burden on individual tourists due to high oil prices," a Jeju Tourism Organization official said. "Further details can be found in the announcements section of the Jeju Tourism Organization's website."
