The newly renovated Hongye Park is emerging as a landmark of Naepo New City.
Hongseong County in South Chungcheong Province announced Tuesday that it has recently completed a major renovation of Hongye Park, the representative green space at the heart of Naepo New City, transforming it into a more pleasant and inviting destination.
The park now features various themed walking trails, rest areas and family-oriented experience facilities throughout, establishing itself as an urban retreat where visitors can enjoy leisure and healing in their daily lives.
In particular, the "Family Park" zone has been expanded with facilities for family visitors, including a children's playground and a skate park, drawing attention as a family-friendly park ideal for visiting with children.
A water play area scheduled to open in July will feature a shipwreck-shaped play structure and a water tunnel, offering a novel experience for children while providing a relaxing space for parents.
"Ungbi Plaza," which features a grass field roughly twice the size of a soccer field along with an outdoor stage, has been designed as an open space suitable for picnics as well as a variety of cultural activities.
The "Jamiwon" zone, with themed gardens including a rose garden, hydrangea garden and wildflower garden, presents distinctive scenery in every season.
The park's significance has been further enhanced by the planting of trees with historical and symbolic value, including 10 zelkova trees that survived the 2023 western Hongseong wildfire, an offspring of the Jeongipumsong pine, a paulownia tree descended from the Seong Sam-mun tree designated as an old-growth tree of South Chungcheong, and the Asan Brother Pines.
Adding to its ecological value, otters — a designated natural monument — were observed inhabiting the park last year.
"The newly renovated Hongye Park will provide rest and leisure in the daily lives of our residents," Hongseong County Mayor Lee Yong-rok said.
