
An explosion at a Hanwha Aerospace plant in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, has caused multiple casualties.
According to fire authorities on Saturday, around 10:59 a.m., more than 30 emergency reports were filed about an explosion at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon plant in Oesam-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. The number of reports later rose to more than 40. Most callers reported hearing an explosion and seeing heavy smoke.
The accident left two people dead and two others injured, who were transported to hospitals. The status of three additional individuals has not yet been confirmed.
Fire authorities issued a Stage 1 emergency response at 11:17 a.m. and deployed 85 personnel along with 25 pieces of equipment, including fire trucks, to the scene to extinguish the blaze. One building is currently on fire, according to authorities.
Police and fire authorities suspect the explosion is related to a propellant, and they plan to investigate the exact circumstances and cause once the fire is brought under control.
Meanwhile, President Lee Jae-myung, after being briefed on the accident, ordered officials to "mobilize all available resources to rescue victims and handle the aftermath."
