Kim Bo-ra, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Anseong mayor, has pledged to recreate her Anseongcheon plunge stunt from six years ago if voter turnout in Anseong surpasses 60% in the main voting of the 9th nationwide local elections.
According to Kim's campaign on Sunday, the candidate jumped into the water at Anseongcheon Waterfront Park on the afternoon of April 19, 2020, as supporters looked on, shortly after winning the Anseong mayoral by-election. Just before that election, Kim had promised on her social media account, "If turnout exceeds 60%, I will gladly jump into Anseongcheon," and carried out the stunt when turnout reached 63.3%.
Kim's campaign explained that this Anseongcheon plunge event, held under the slogan "Again 2020!", reflects the candidate's strong determination to achieve a successful start to the 9th popularly elected Anseong city administration by securing victory through overwhelming participation in the local elections.
"The higher the turnout, the clearer Anseong's future vision becomes, and the more decisively voters can pass judgment on forces that engage in baseless smear campaigns and outdated negative tactics," Kim said. "I hope the fervent enthusiasm Anseong citizens showed in early voting will carry through to the upcoming main voting."
She added, "Please actively participate in voting, which is both a right and a duty of Anseong citizens, and make sure the final turnout exceeds 60%. If citizens unite their strength through overwhelming turnout, I will gladly throw myself into the water once again to celebrate Anseong's victory and renew my resolve for uninterrupted development of Anseong."
Meanwhile, Kim is seeking a third term as mayor in this election, competing against People Power Party candidate Kim Jang-yeon and independent candidate Shin Won-ju.
