South Jeolla Province has become the first metropolitan local government in Korea to provide emergency living stabilization funds to bus and taxi transportation workers.
The recipients include 5,995 taxi drivers (3,675 private and 2,320 corporate), 1,739 charter bus drivers, 2,301 city and rural bus drivers, and 986 intercity bus drivers. A total of 10,121 workers received 300,000 won each, amounting to 3.3 billion won in emergency living stabilization funds.
The support was arranged as part of the "Livelihood Measures in Response to the Middle East Situation," aimed at stabilizing the livelihoods of transportation workers struggling with high prices and rising transportation costs.
Earlier, South Jeolla Province provided 500,000 won each, totaling 390 million won, to 781 cargo transportation workers connected to the Yeosu petrochemical industry. Starting in June, the province plans to provide 500,000 won each to 1,000 cargo transportation workers linked to the steel industry, which is facing a crisis.
