The Gyeonggi Province Business and Science Accelerator (GBSA) is conducting a full-scale survey on the investment status and performance of approximately 110 Gyeonggi Province research and development (R&D) projects, which together amount to 300 billion won annually. This year, the agency plans to further advance data-driven science and technology policy by releasing raw data from its industry survey and conducting linked analyses of industry and corporate data.
The GBSA announced Wednesday that it has launched the survey in earnest after holding the "2025 Gyeonggi Province R&D Project Survey and Analysis Briefing." Since 2009, the agency has reviewed R&D projects across the province annually through full-scale surveys, comprehensively analyzing investment size, performance, industry linkages and technology-specific characteristics by project to inform policy.
The briefing covered survey items and standards, data entry systems and performance registration methods, building consensus on minimizing confusion during the survey process and improving data accuracy. Participants agreed that R&D performance data should be used not merely as submitted material but as a core asset for policy and industrial strategy.
Following the briefing, the GBSA plans to begin collecting task and performance data from major R&D projects across the province. The collected data will be analyzed by project type, technology field and industry, with a comprehensive report scheduled for publication at year-end.
This year, the agency is also pursuing an expanded approach beyond its existing statistics-focused services. It plans to release industry survey data in raw form to enhance its usability for companies and researchers and to strengthen transparency in R&D performance. The GBSA will also conduct linked analyses of R&D data with industry and corporate data to diagnose the province's industrial structure from multiple angles and accelerate the formulation of future industrial policies and investment strategies.
"Since Gyeonggi Province invests a large budget in R&D every year, it is important to precisely analyze the results and manage them systematically," said Hyun Chang-ha, standing director of GBSA's Future New Industry Division. "We will continue to enhance the Gyeonggi Technology Information Service (GTIS) platform and strengthen the data-based analysis system to support more systematic surveys and analyses."
