Seoul's Gangdong-gu will operate the "Visiting Economic Classroom" program for elementary school students through November, teaching rational consumption and financial basics.
The program targets 1,838 students across 87 classes at nine schools in Gangdong-gu. Specialized instructors from the Seoul Regional Economic Education Center will visit the schools to lead the sessions.
Students will learn economic concepts connected to everyday life through hands-on activities and games. Tailored to each grade level, the curriculum covers a range of topics, including thrifty allowance management, smart consumption habits, and credit management that pays off.
The program was developed to strengthen students' basic economic literacy and help them build sound economic values, as young people increasingly encounter gambling and other speculative activities, stock investing, and online financial services. During a pilot run in the second half of last year, 95.5% of students and teachers said they were satisfied with the program, drawing strong positive feedback.
