A man in his 50s and his older brother and sister-in-law were found dead one after another in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, prompting a police investigation. Police are focusing on the possibility of a murder followed by suicide, based on a money dispute between the brothers and signs of homicide found on the bodies of the older brother and his wife, and are investigating the precise circumstances.
According to the Nonsan Police Station in South Chungcheong Province on the 29th, police received a missing person report for A, a man in his 50s, around 7 p.m. the previous day and launched a search. They later found A dead alongside a pesticide container in a rice paddy ridge in Yeonmu-eup, Nonsan.
While investigating the circumstances with A's wife, who filed the missing person report, and tracing A's movements, police additionally found the bodies of A's older brother B and sister-in-law C in the storage shed of a detached house in Yeonmu-eup around 11 p.m. the same day.
The investigation found that A had been in conflict with his older brother and sister-in-law over money. In particular, signs of homicide were reportedly confirmed in several places on the bodies of B and his wife.
Police believe there is a possibility that A killed his older brother and sister-in-law before drinking pesticide and dying, based on the scene and the circumstances of the discovery.
Police have requested autopsies of the three bodies from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances of the case, and are investigating the situation before and after the incident with the bereaved family and others.
"We are also investigating whether A's wife, the initial reporter, was an accomplice, but no criminal charges have been confirmed so far," a police official said. "If no special circumstances are found in further investigation, the case is expected to be closed with no right to prosecution, as the suspect A has died."
