A contractor employee who carried out a knife attack at LG Electronics' Magok business complex was detained on the 29th.
Kim Ji-hyun, the warrant duty senior judge at the Seoul Southern District Court, issued a detention warrant after holding a pre-detention interrogation for A, a 60-year-old contractor employee facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault. The judge cited "a risk of flight" as the reason for issuing the warrant.
A is suspected of stabbing two LG Electronics employees by swinging a camping knife on the second floor of the Science Park at LG Electronics' Magok business complex at around 11 a.m. on the 27th. The two victims, a man in his 50s and a man in his 40s, were transported to a hospital with injuries to the side and arm, respectively. Both were found to have no life-threatening injuries.
A, who was arrested by police the same day, stated during questioning that he committed the crime because the victims habitually spoke rudely and treated him condescendingly. A also said that he had been notified of his dismissal that day.
The victims countered that A had problems performing his work, and that they had requested a change in his duties through the contractor's representative.
